Topic: MOVIES, MAKE-UP AND WEAVE
1: IS THERE ANYTHING WRONG WITH CHRISTIANS GOING TO THE MOVIES.(CONSIDERING MOST PERSONS WATCH THESE SAME MOVIES IN THERE HOMES).

2: WHAT ABOUT WEARING MAKE-UP AND WEAVE. I was watching 3ABN the other day and I noticed a few persons wearing make-up (eye shadow and lipstick and maybe even face powder) is that the example we are setting nowadays or is it that we are confused about our standerds OR IS IT SIMPLY OK.

Linda remember broad is the way that lead to destruction and many therebe that go that way. Never look on what the majority is doing. Not because the people on 3ABN does certain things make it right.
Ok I will touch on movies. Question, HOw is that movie or movies that you watch helping you spiritually. Have you dropped any known sins or overcome any temptation if not was is the use was time on things that will deter your spiritual growth. NOw mind you, TV is ok to watch but what you watch is what makes the difference. Just like if you go to a clothing store. YOu will not buy everything you see in that right. Well the same applies to the Television not everything on television is healthy for the soul. Some things will corrupt you more and more. So personally movies is a noo noo and the people in the outside are watching you. YOU want to set the right example for others.

Now to much MAKEUP is overdoing it. I personally wear some face powder on my face to take away the shine. But Biblically I am not certain on it. I would believe we should be simple as possible and especiallly if we have excellent skin there is no need for makeup because you are already beautiful.

For weave I have never worn it and is it ok. I would want to believe it is not ok because health wise I don't think that is healthy for the scalp. People do it but it does not make it right. IF you will spend all that money doing a weave you might as well spend that money taking care of your o wn hair.

pray and ask God for guidance and He will surely direct your path.

God bless

If you can choose which tv show to watch, can you not choose which movie to watch? I cannot remember the cinema forcing patrons to watch a particular show or forcing them to stay if the show they began watching was not what they expected.
If a non-Christian were to see a Christian going to a club they would probably view the individual as a hypocrite. Is that the same if they saw you going to a movie?
I saw pretty good movies at home (like August Rush). Are you saying that if I watched that show at cinema that would make it wrong? Are you saying that even watching a 'good' show is a stumbling block? To whom? Does God, society or anyone outside of Adventism view cinema as a vile place?
I believe Christians can find better forms of entertainment that cinema (especially persons dating and groups of friends{most frwquent movie attenders}). Cinema is not a forum for discussion or interaction. Better choices are games, nature and recreational activities. This is more stimulating to the mind, better for the relationship and in some cases for the body. I would say there are better alternatives than cinema not that it is a sin.
I play football and it does not uplift me spiritually but it is not wrong or sinful. It does not bring me closer too God. Entertainment is just what the word means. Its intent is not spriritual but because we are ambassadors of Christ our choice of entertainment should not lead us away for Him. If going to the movies does not sit right on your spirit don't do it. It will be sin to you. It would be better to miss a movie than heaven. As for me I am not yet convicted!

Linda,

1) NO
2)Simplicity and frugality are our guiding principles mainly due to the stewardship that we owe when using God giving materials possessions but there is nothing inherently wrong about it.

So you are either saying movies are too expensive (that is relative). Or movies are a waste of the Lord's money.
With that I cannot say no or yes, evryone has to know their means.

Personally when it comes to simplicity and frugality most female throw that idea away when it comes to the purchasing of their wedding ring, wedding dress and other similar paraphernalia. But that is another thread!

To thine own self be true. Use the Lord's money wisely!

(1)i believe that it's wrong for adventist believers to go to cinemas/ movies. We may watch these same movies in the comfort of our homes, but cinemas are a totally different story. For those of us who have ever been to one, we know that this setting is not very christian like. For starters people smoke {now adays there is the smoking & non-smoking sections, alcohol, and the tread where people go to have sex or as we say make out in cinemas. One might hold the believe that this isn't true or this seldom happens, but i've seen it an it's real... (2) i don't wear make-up for 2 reasons, religion wise & my personal reasons. i love to see people with make-up on {once it's appiled properly}, but i won't wear it. As adventist we have a standard to keep and make-up is not one of these standards. as 4 the weave... I love it an i don't have a problem with it. i'm not too sure if the bible states anything about wearing weave...

Before I say anything I must reiterate that I believe that as Christians, better use of your money can be spent than going cinema. I cannot disagree with what Sammy said because I was not there. She saw what she saw. I would say that in Texas there is no alcohol or smoking in cinemas. Smoking in most building (if not all) is not permitted. Alcohol in places where children frequent is not permitted either. I have never seen any sexual activity even though I will not say that it does not happen. Sexual activity (making out) happens everywhere here. People here ain't have 'shame' like my people in the Caribbean (shame is just a term we use there).
In Trinidad (island in the Caribbean) there is no smoking or alcohol in modern cinemas. I never saw any sexual activities and every weekend the cinema is packed so if ppl have sex, they real brave!
If you are not married I hope you keep that attitude about make up on your wedding day. Unless you don't believe that you are beautiful enough to look special without make up on your special day. If you want, you can take my stupid advise, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL ENOUGH!
I don't have anything positive I can say about weave so I will remain silent.

i really dont see anything going to the movies because of course the environment is not hostile. also there are some movies that have good morals while they are not necessarily christian movies. they have good mora;s such as helping frenz ,trusting etc. therefore it all depends on what u go there to watch. some persons will not go to the theatre but they will stay at home and watch the same thing that is been shown at the movies. its the same thing. Ellen G White spoke against movie theatres because in those times there was alot of smoking and illicit acts which were not fit for a person professing christianity. In today's world it is different because the theatre is a very social place and none of those acts are permitted there.also look at tyler perry's productions that are christian based and has a Godly message, i dont see anything wrong with going to watch one of those movies. so therefore as long as u are going to watch a good movie i dont think that anything is wrong with going to the theatre.

on the matter of braids and makeup the bible does not address such topics, but it is therefore evident from the bible that we should dress simply and conservativelyl. bearing that in mind i think we should only wear makeup if necessary and small amounts.

Trevene u want to tell me that jus because a movie has something to say about christianity then it is ok to watch it? well i have never seen a movie which talks about adventism, second coming of Christ,or salvation, they all talk about catholism(if thats the rite word to use"catholic").
.....but wats there to learn from something which is not real, those people are jus acting. i think the best teacher is God,through the Bible and Spirit of prophesy.anything that one wants to know orlearn about love, relationships or anything we can consult the bible or even our elders at church who are well versed with such infor. movies is not the rite food for the soul of a christian.

as with make up,i go natural....thats my principle!
