Old messages may tell me, to give, give of myself
Unselfishness is goodness, MY wants! Leave on the shelf.
I give my time for others, through them fulfil my needs
Give warmth and care; compassion, perform unselfish deeds
Give out! Give out - unending, until there's nothing left
Except a dreadful yearning, of what am I bereft?
My spine begins to shrivel, there's emptiness inside
This void is overwhelming, something has been denied!
There's NO love satisfies me, it NEVER is enough
I haven't stored the INPUT, the going now is rough
If now, I recognise that, it is for love I yearn
There dawns a new beginning, maybe... I can relearn
The struggle will be endless, and progress may be slow
Accepting love seems alien, but gradually, I'll grow
I'll learn to take some time out, for ME. It's MINE, not THEIRS
I'll pamper to MY longings, let them demand. Who cares?
I'll state MY needs quite clearly, thus maybe causing strife
But I am good and worthy, what do I want from life?
When I am feeling weary, it's o.k. to give in
To show I'M also human, not bear it with a grin
Sometimes it's necessary, another's needs to bear
The point is that I choose to, if for myself I care
And while self-love is growing, I look around and see
The world is full of loving, and lots of it's for me
This time I'll store the INPUT, I'll store it 'til I burst
I've learned that I am worthy, to put my OWN needs first
I'm beautiful; important!, there's nothing now to lose
And there is more to follow -, THOSE WHOM I LOVE CAN CHOOSE
To be themselves entirely, they are no there for me
To satisfy my yearnings, the boundaries are free
Self-love gives me that freedom, AND frees my loves as well
I know can give to others, Love unconditional
No pay-offs for the giving, no gimmicks now for me
Self-nurture gave me freedom, the freedom just TO BE
