How is it, that so many people can read the bible, yet not get converted? Is not the bible the history between God and Man? Does not that bible contain the very words which God spoke? Does not the bible contain the message of salvation?
The answer to the last 3 questions is yes. But the answer to the first question is this: The reason why people cane read the bible can not get c is because the bible has become their stumbling block. A stumbling block is an object in which a person trips over. It is an object that is in their path, and for what ever reason they can not avoid the object. But instead of being able to pass it normally, they always seem to trip up. There was an old black and white television show (I think it was "My Three Sons" but i'm can't remember too well), that I used to watch. In this show, Dick Van Dyke, would come through his front door and in every episode, without fail, proceed to trip over a foot rest. That is what a picture of a stumbling block. The reason why the bible has become a stumbling block is because the person(s) does not (or do not) believe what they are reading. Athiests, generally, believe that the bible is just a story book. A fairytale. There are nice lessons to be learned, but it's as real as Little Red Riding Hood. Because of this, reading the very words of God, and reading the message that they too can be saved becomes a stumbling block. Muslims, generally, believe that the bible has been corrupted. No amount of proof seems to be enough for them to believe that it has not been corrupted. Even when the quran states that the words of God can not be changed, they still maintain that the words of God have been changed. So when a muslim reads the bible, they are not really reading, but looking for verses (and part verses) that they can use to validate islam. Once they find those verses (or part verses), they then conclude that, that verse is not corrupted. Because of this, the bible becomes a stumbling block. Agnostics, generally, aren't sure what to believe about the bible. And because they aren't sure, it becomes a stumbling block. They aren't content with just some words on paper. They want proof, hard evidence, and it has to come in such a way that they dictate (and even then, they still don't believe). When a person gives their life to Jesus (gets saved), that person, as a christian, must believe that the bible is true. They must believe that the original text is completely 100% true and without error. The reason we must believe that the bible is true is because of this: [NIV] Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. For you to receive God's words, you must believe that what you are reading are God's words. Otherwise, it will just be some text, with no real significance. Now, as a christian it is possible to believe that bible is true yet not receive anything when you read it. Why? Because we do not understand what we are reading. We need someone to explain it to us. You can go to another brother or sister to explain, but I find the best way to explain God's words are to ask God himself. Before you read the bible, ask God to reveal things to you. Ask God to open your eyes and speak to you through the bible. And because our God, the true God, the God of the bible, is a personal God that will speak to you directly without anybody needing to be there, He will do it. I leave you with this thought... [NIV] Acts 8:26-39 [26]Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." [27] So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, [28] and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. [29] The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." [30] Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked. [31] "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Posted by BrotherEd

[32] The eunuch was reading this passage of scrip.ture: "He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. [33] In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can
speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth." [34] The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" [35]Then Philip began with that very passage of ure and told him the good news about Jesus. [36] As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?" [38] And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. [39]When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. Posted by BrotherEd

Good post BrotherEd.
Reading without revelation is unfruitful. We need to ask God to open our eyes constantly, always seeking His presence. God bless you. Posted by Tawanda
