For many years, our judiciary have been entertaining complaints and issuing writs pursuant to their mandate of settling disputes, upholding the rule of law but more importantly, guaranteeing the protection and vindication of rights of the individual against violations of public authorities and private individuals or entities, being the last bulwark of the people.

The Supreme Court promulgated two new writs in addition to the many writs ensuring the protection of public liberties: the Writ of Amparo and the Writ of Habeas Data.

The Writ of Amparo is a judicial remedy available to any person who has been violated or is threatened with violation by an unlawful act or omission by public officials or employees and/or private individuals or entities.

The Writ of Habeas Data, is a remedy available to any person who has been violated or is threatened with violation by an unlawful act or omission by public officials or employees and/or private individuals or entities engaged in data or information gathering regarding the person, family, home and correspondence of the aggrrieved party.

These (2) Writs will provide the victims of extralegal killings and enforced disappearances, the protection they need and the promise of vindication for their rights, as well as empower the courts to issue reliefs that may be granted through judicial orders and other reliefs to safeguard one's life and liberty.
